KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 9 (Bernama) — Food tourism has been identified as one of the components that accelerate the Malaysia Tourism Transformation Plan 2020 to receive 36 million tourist arrivals by 2020.
Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ng Yen Yen said Malaysia is one of the best countries that offers variety of food which could attract more visitors.
“We want Malaysia to be known as the food paradise and since we are living in a multi-racial country, we have the speciality that we need to tell the world,” she said at the launching of Fabulous Food 1Malaysia 4th Asean Heritage Food Trail With Datuk Chef Wan, here Friday.
The yearly event, which is supported by the ministry, would gather local and international chefs to promote food and culture from the 10 countries in the South East Asia region that is held from Nov 9 to 22 at Lot 10 shopping centre here.
Dr Ng said in order to promote food tourism, three Malaysian iconic dishes would be picked every year.
