KUALA LUMPUR, April 23 (Bernama) — The Government has recognised Malaysia’s potential as a golfing destination which impacted the tourism industry, said Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ng Yen Yen.
Noting that Malaysia was named Asia’s Leading Sports Tourism Destination by World Travel Awards last year, she said the country had 207 golf facilities, ranging from short 9-hole courses to 54-hole complexes, representing an investment of over RM20 billion.
Dr Ng said this in her speech read by Tourism Malaysia acting director-general Datuk Azizan Noordin at the opening ceremony of the Asia Golf Tourism Convention (AGTC) in Seri Kembangan near here Monday.
The four-day event comprises one-on-one meeting, networking opportunities and briefing on the golf tourism business potential in Asia.
A total of 146 buyers from 38 countries and 200 suppliers from 16 countries attended the convention.
