KUALA LUMPUR: A one-stop centre to be set up in three years will help fashion apparel design manufacturers to compete in the international market, said Deputy Finance Minister Datuk Dr Ng Yen Yen.
She said most of the more than 200 manufacturers involved in the industry were unable to expand their businesses due to inadequate trading area and lack of financial backing.
“The establishment of the Kenanga Wholesale City will be the first such centre to assist manufacturers in the small-and-medium-enterprise (industry) to clinch a share in the international market,” she told reporters after the soft launch of Kenanga Wholesale City at Plaza UE3 near here yesterday.
Present were Kenanga Wholesale City Sdn Bhd group chief executive officer Yee Ia Howe Malaysia Garments Wholesale Merchants Association chairman Datuk Ang Say Tee and Kenanga Wholesale City group chairman Brig-Gen (R) Datuk Abdullah Mohamed.
Dr Ng said she had seen such centres in several locations in China and was impressed with the concept.
“Locals and foreigners will be able to shop here without the hassle of running from one place to another,” she added.
